Alessia Ruffolo is a Canadian-Italian performing artist, choreographer, and “risk-taking researcher” (TANZ Magazine), creative and outdoor enthusiast currently based in Berlin, Germany. She began her dance training in Toronto (CAN) while concurrently training in drama and theater. She holds an Honours BFA degree from Point Park University Conservatory of Performing Arts (Pittsburgh, USA), where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.

From 2016-2021, Alessia worked closely with FAUST nominated choreographer, Johannes Wieland, as a full time member of the Staatstheater Kassel Tanzkompanie in Kassel, Germany. She is currently working as a choreographer/co-director alongside theatre directors Alexander Nerlich, Phillip Rosendahl and Ulrich Greb in various productions at Staatstheater Mainz, Staatstheater Cottbus, Stadttheater Ingolstadt and Schlosstheater Moers. Most recently Alessia Choreographed and Performed in Grammy Award Winning Artist Purple Disco Machine’s music Video “Die Maschine” featuring Friedrich Lichtenstein. She has also worked with Maxine Doyle - Punchdrunk (UK), Kristian Lever - Klever Dance (UK/FIN), Lenka Vagnerova (CZ), Ryan Mason and Annamari Keskinen - Tharbedragons (USA,FN), Tom Weinberger (IL), Helder Seabra (PT), Luke Murphy - Attic Projects (IR) , Yamila Kodhr (12H Dance) and Dani Vitale in David Lowery’s A24 feature film “Mother Mary”.

As a choreographer, Alessia’s work has quickly gained professional recognition. Her independent work has been selected as a finalists for the 15th Copenhagen International Choreography Competition, 34th International Choreographic Competition Hannover (Ballett Gesellschaft Hannover), and Teatri Riflessi’s International short play festival. In 2023, she was invited to the University of Michigan (USA)’s Summit through her Rise to present her work and lead a workshop to the Undergraduate and Graduate Departments of Dance and Theater. Her ScreenDance work has also received recognition from numerous international film festivals, most notably winning the “Most Daring Film” Award from the Dare2Dance in Public Film festival 2021 with her short self-produced film REwind. Further showings of her work include festivals in Italy, Vienna, and the United States.

Her theater/acting for film training includes NYU Tisch School of the Arts, The StoneStreet Film Academy (New York), The New York Film Academy (Los Angeles), Comedy Cafe Berlin, Tony Greco (Method Acting Workshop). Further dance programs/training includes, The Creative Gesture Residency at Banff Centre for the Arts (direction - Emily Molnar),  Springboard Danse Montreal (direction -Alexandra Wells) and Le Domaine Forget (RUBBERBANDance Group). She has worked as a touring Teaching artist with the FRESH Dance Intensive leading workshops across Canada. Further teaching credits include The School of Alberta Ballet (CAN), The University of Michigan (USA) SOZO Visions in Motion Professional Training Program (GER), Staatstheater Kassel and Staatstheater Cottbus

Alessia is a truly curious and creative person at her core. Whether it’s dance, acting,, visual art, writing, photography, music or planning her next alpine expedition, Alessia is constantly delving into various mediums to grow and express herself in her work.
